VOM Community Micro-grid Team Meets with Essential Services Reps

The Village of Mamaroneck (VOM) Community Micro-grid team held their second meeting, this time at the Village Hall to introduce representatives of the project's "essential services" to team members as well as explain how the feasibility study works and how a community micro-grid system will benefit them and the Village. Representatives from both the police and fire department, Village officials and two local service stations were present, joined by team members from Murphy Brothers Contracting, Steven Winter Associates and Mayor Norm Rosenblum.

The VOM Community Micro-grid is one of many NY Prize winners from throughout New York who have received state funding through NYSERDA to develop the concept of community micro-grids which would provide a source of emergency back-up power to these essential services in the event of a natural or man-made disaster, thereby allowing them to restore and maintain order while providing relief. Community micro-grids can also offer reduced electric costs, acting as a hedge against increasing power costs in future and in the present, help reduced our village carbon emissions footprint.

The team announced an upcoming presentation "Community Micro-grids" on September 29th at 6:30pm at the Mamaroneck Village Library Community Room for the public along with area architects and building design professionals.
